Remembering two pillars of the Company

The Officers and Members of the Salisbury Township Fire Company #1 take time to pause and remember one year later the passing of two longtime members of the company, then Ladies Auxiliary President Nancy B. Wallace and Fire Chief Emeritus L. Ross Parmer. \
\
Nancy left us on the morning of Saturday, November 8, 2008, and Ross left us on the morning of Friday, December 26, 2008.\
\
Nancy was with the Ladies Auxiliary since 1965, and faithfully responded to many fire scenes to serve the firefighters with food and drink, as well as being at many of the fundraisers held by the company. \
\
For 50 years, she operated a tax service business and did bookkeeping. Earlier in life, she worked at Stoltzfus Meat Market.\
\
In addition to volunteering at the fire company, she enjoyed going to the beach, swimming, playing cards, and getting together with her former classmates from New Holland High School.\
\
Ross faithfully served the Company since 1944, serving as fire chief from 1948-1974 & 1978-1998. At the time of his passing, he was serving the company in the capacity of Assistant Treasurer and as a Fire Police Officer. He also served as assistant fire chief for the company, Emergency Management Director for Salisbury Township, President of the Lancaster County Fire Chiefs Association, and as a Pennsylvania State Forest Fire Warden.\
\
Ross had worked 17 years as a welder at Lukens Steel in Coatesville and then had Parmers welding shop in White Horse until retiring in 1982. Ross also was a member of Salisbury Sportsmen Association.\
\
Together, these two pillars of the company served for a combined 107 years; Nancy for 43 years, and Ross for 64.\
\
We, as a membership, will never forget them.
