On the evening of Wednesday, February 25, severe weather threatened Eastern Lancaster County.
At approximately 7:40PM, an F-2 tornado touched down at Spring Garden and Amish Roads in Salisbury Township.
Damage continued north into White Horse and northeast from there.
Storm damage ends at Meadville and Buchland Road in Salisbury Township…for an approximate path of 5-6 miles.
Early estimates show:
2 chicken houses destroyed
1 Amish one room school destroyed
1 Amish one room school damaged
1 church damaged
10 barns damaged or destroyed (at minimum)
2 cemeteries damaged
plus damage to several homes and smaller structures.
Many trees were also felled or damaged as well.
Thankfully no major injuries or fatalities were reported.
Damages are estimated at a minimum of $8 million dollars, and may rise even higher.
The scars of this storm may be present for a long time, but, as a community, we will overcome…just like we always have in the past.
