Condolences to the Bart Township Fire Company

The officers and members of the Salisbury Township Fire Company #1 would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Bart Township Fire Company (Station 5-1) on the Line of Duty passing of Mr. John Lawrence on Saturday, March 7, 2009.\

Mr. Lawrence was a Fire Police Officer with Bart Township, and was on duty directing traffic at the Fire Company’s annual Spring Auction when he was stricken with a medical emergency. A nearby CPR instructor started CPR immediately while members of Station 5-1 responded and initiated 1 shock with an AED. Officer Lawrence was revived and was transported to a local hospital where he unfortunately passed away.\

John G. Lawrence, age 52 of Bart, PA formerly of Norwich, N.Y., passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Saturday, March 7, 2009. He was the husband of Darlene T. Eastridge Swisher Lawrence with whom he celebrated 6 years of marriage on May 25th of last year. He was born in Ellenville, N.Y., son of Lois McClay Lawrence of Norwich, N.Y. and the late Donald E. Lawrence. \

He was a Scale Master for Lancaster County Solid Waste Management. He was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion, Quarryville Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, Ancient Order of Croaking Frogs of Quarryville, Bart Fire Company. John enjoyed playing golf, fishing, traveling and playing cards. \

Surviving besides his wife and mother are three children: Shane husband of Shawna Cargill Lawrence, Kathleen Lawrence fiancé of Bobby Mikalunas, Donald husband of Melissa Gross Lawrence, all of Norwich, step daughters: Terry L. wife of Victor Aulestia of Lancaster, Dawn M. wife of Gary Fromm of Strasburg, Tracy A. Joe of Quarryville; two grandsons: Shane Michael, Jr. & Torin Matthew Lawrence, 5 step granddaughters, 1 step great grandson; sister: Debbie wife of George Flanagan of Norwich. \

Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Wednesday, March 11th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Remel officiating. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Norwich, N.Y. “\
