Four injured in head-on collision in Buyerstown

At 6:04PM on the evening of Friday, April 30, as members were beginning to gather for the EMS Active Crew Banquet (see separate story), Ambulance 4-9, along with Station 4-2 and Medic 6, were dispatched to the intersection of Newport Road (Route 772) and Amish Road in the Buyerstown section of Salisbury Township for a vehicle accident. Ambulance 4-9 responded with a crew of 4 within seconds of dispatch. Lancaster County Communications was reporting multiple calls on a two vehicle accident head-on.\
\
Additional EMT’s enroute to the banquet also responded directly to the scene. Safety 4-9 (C. Eno) was the first arriving officer at 6:10 and confirmed the reports. Additional EMS units were requested. Ambulance 4-9 arrived on the scene at 6:12, and the ambulance was quickly stripped of equipment and treatment was started on the four patients. All four were in need of advanced life support, and four additional ambulances and three additional paramedic units were dispatched for a total of 5 & 4. EMS Lieutenant 4-9 (P. Zook), along with Past Chief 4-2 (R. Beiler) established the EMS and Fire Commands inside Rescue 4-2.\
\
4-9 EMS & 4-2 Fire crews worked together to have all patients prepared for transport by the time the additional ambulances arrived on the scene, to minimize any additional on-scene time for the patients. All four patients were transported to a local trauma center for treatment of their injuries.\
\
After all patients were enroute to the hospital, Ambulance 4-9 was restocked with supplies on the scene, and cleared the scene at 6:42. Ambulance 4-9 and the additional on scene EMTs then returned to the banquet to enjoy the rest of the evening.\
