Annual Zone 4 Firefighter’s Competition

On Wednesday, May 5th, 8 members loaded up in Engine 4-9-1 and headed to the annual Zone 4 Firemen’s Competition in Bird-In-Hand.\
\
The annual event, which has been held on the grounds behind the Bird-In-Hand Family Restaurant and Motor Inn for the past several years, (before that it was held at Pequea Valley High School for a couple of years and before that, at Paradise Township Community Park) is held as a friendly competition and a social get-together between the member Zone 4 fire companies which include the following companies: Bird-In-Hand, Gap, Gordonville, Intercourse, Kinzer, Paradise, Ronks, White Horse, and Witmer.\
\
This year’s competition involved two events: The first event involved a firefighter from each company donning turnout gear and airpack. White Horse finished second in this competition. The finishing order for the first competition decided order for the second. Since White Horse came in second, we were the second to last to go.\
\
The second competition involved a bucket brigade, going from a porta-tank to another container, with holes drilled in the bottom of each bucket. White Horse had the fastest time in this event, at a time of 1 minute 57 seconds, but due to a 20 second time penalty for dropping one of the buckets, got dropped back to second place for a total time of 2 minutes and 17 seconds. The Witmer Fire Company completed their brigade in 2 minutes and 15 seconds with no penalties, and thus captured first place. At the end of the event, the Lafayette Fire Company set up Truck 6-3 and did a candy drop for all of the children in attendance. A good time was had by all in attendance.\
\
There were also apparatus on display from all of the Zone 4 fire companies and the Bareville, Strasburg, and Lafayette fire companies for everyone view.\
\
Our Ladies Auxiliary was also in attendance with their food trailer, providing food and drink to the firefighters and public. Thank you to the ladies for providing this service!
