Use Caution when burning outdoors

The Salisbury Township Fire Company #1 would like to remind all residents to use caution with any open burning conducted outdoors. A fire in a burn barrel is open burning, as is burning debris in an outdoor fireplace or backyard incinerator. Other examples include burning piles of yard debris, stumps, construction debris.\
\
Springtime weather conditions with warmer temperatures and high winds, combined with dry grass and leaves from the wintertime, small fires can easily turn into dangerous situations.\
\
All outdoor burns must be attended by a responsible adult. Burn piles or barrels should be at least 50 feet from any structure, with sufficient water available to extinguish the fire if needed. Burn only on level ground, and keep the pile small enough to control. The area of the burning plus a ten-foot circle around the fire must be scraped to prevent flames from spreading. Don’t burn on windy days, near tall grass or trees and under power lines. Don’t leave the fire until all embers are entirely out.\
