At 11:12AM on Sunday, April 6, Station 4-9, along with Medic 9(Ephrata Hospital) were dispatched to the 700 block of Red Hill Road in Salisbury Township for a motorcycle accident.\
\
Responding units were advised of a motorcyclist that was down and not getting back up. Aeromedical helicopter SkyCare1 from Brandywine Hospital was placed on standby in case they would be needed. Arriving personnel immediately began lifesaving procedures on the injured motorcyclist. SkyCare 1 was then requested to respond to the scene, due to the injuries that occurred in the crash. Ambulance 4-9, Engine 4-9-1, and Medic 9 all arrived simultaneously, and joined in caring for the injured motorcyclist.\
\
SkyCare1 landed in a cornfield south of the accident scene, and had their crew transported to the scene. There, in conjunction with the other crews, the patient was prepared for transport by SkyCare 1’s crew. The patient was loaded into Ambulance 4-9 and was transported to the waiting helicopter. The motorcyclist was then carried to and loaded into Skycare1. After lifting off, the motorcyclist was transported to the nearest trauma center, where unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Another motorcyclist at the scene was slightly injured in the incident, but fortunately was not seriously injured and refused treatment and transport to a hospital.\
\
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.\
\
The Ambulance and Engine cleared the scene shortly after noontime, while Station 4-9 Fire Police kept Red Hill Road closed between Northeimer and Meadville Roads until shortly after 1:30 PM, while the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the incident.\
