At 4:08 PM on Saturday, August 16, Ambulance 4-9 & Medic 9 (Ephrata Hospital) were dispatched to the 5800 block of Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) for the traumatic injured person from an equestrian accident.\
\
Due to the additional given to Medic 9, aeromedical helicopter SkyCare 1 was placed on standby. Ambulance 4-9 responded and arrived on the scene within minutes. Due to the helicopter having a shorter arrival time than the ground medic unit, Ambulance 4-9 requested SkyCare 1 to the scene to assist since Medic 9 was clearing another call, and had an extended arrival time. \
\
Engine 4-9-1 was dispatched at 4:14 to respond to the scene and setup the landing zone. SkyCare 1 landed in a nearby meadow shortly after Engine 4-9-1’s arrival, and began advanced life support care.\
\
Fortunately, the patients injuries did not require transport by the helicopter itself, and after Medic 9 arrived on the scene, SkyCare1’s crew transferred care to Medic 9.\
\
Ambulance 4-9 and Medic 9 both transported the patient to a local trauma center for treatment of the injuries.\
\
SkyCare1 returned to their base, and Engine 4-9-1 cleared the scene at 4:39PM.\
\
Station 4-9 Fire Police closed Route 340 between Mount Vernon and Blank Roads for the duration of the incident.\
