At 0850AM on Saturday, December 25, Station 4-9, along with Truck 3-9, was dispatched to the 6200 block of Byerly Road in Salisbury Township for a chimney fire.\
\
Lancaster County Communications reported that the caller had alot of dark smoke from his chimney and smoke in his attic, no fire visible.\
\
Due to shortage of manpower, Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) requested Engine 33-1 to the scene.\
\
Safety 4-9-2 (M. Lantz) arrived with smoke showing from beside the chimney in the structure. With this report, Chief 4-9 ordered the assignment be upgraded, bringing addition units from Station 33 and Station 3-4, as well as Ambulance 4-9.\
\
Upon investigation, it was found that the fire in the fireplace had infiltrated the wall and burned up through to the ceiling. Fortunately the homeowner discovered the fire before it had a chance to spread to the rest of the structure. In order to extinguish the fire, the stone and stucco from the chimney as well as some roof around the chimney had to be removed.\
\
The fire was placed under control at 10:38, with the final units clearing the scene at 11:40AM.\
\
Chief 4-9 had the operations sector, Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer) had incident command.\
\
Station 4-9’s Ladies Auxiliary provided food and drinks at the scene.\
