Recently Tanker 49 received an upgrade to its lighting systems.

Most of the Tanker's old style incandescent and halogen lights were replaced with light emitting diode (LED) lights. Included in this upgrade were the body clearance lights, rear lights, flood lights, and red emergency lights.

While LED lights do have a higher initial purchase cost, they provide a savings over time; as they are more energy efficient and have a lower current draw on the electrical system and have a much longer bulb life, meaning far fewer replacements.

The LED's are are much brighter than the old style lights, providing a safer warning and work environment around the truck.

As we hope to have the Tanker last several more years before it is replaced, we felt this was a worthwhile and cost effective upgrade.

Check out the lights in action in the photos below. Please note that due to the alternating flash patterns of the emergency lights, the camera captured the lights in mid-sequence and not all lights are flashing in the photos. Also, due to the limitations of the camera used, the bright sunlight overpowered and washed out the brightness of the red lights and the scene lights. They are much brighter in person.
