At 3:49 PM on Friday, January 29, Station 49 was dispatched to a farm in the 300 block of School Lane Road in Salisbury Township for a public service.
Lancaster County Communications advised responding units of a forklift that went through the barn floor, and that there were approximately 40 cows trapped below, and that the status of any humans in the barn was unknown.
Units arrived and determined that the driver of the forklift was out of the barn, and only a few cows were blocked from escaping the barn. Units requested Ambulance 49-1 to the scene for an arm injury to the forklift driver, and Rescue 42 (Gap) for the assist in shoring up the damged structure.
Due to the size of the forklift, it was unable to be removed from the basement of the barn by itself, and a 70 ton crane was brought to the scene. Truck 42 was dispatched to assist with removing some of the barn roof so that the crane could have access to the forklift, and lift it out of the barn.
Final Units cleared the scene at 8:05 PM |
