Environmental Rescue with flyout

At 10:08AM on Saturday, August 31, Squad 49-1 was dispatched to assist Ambulance 49-1 & Medic 04-40 (Wellspan Ephrata Hospital) at the scene of a traumatic injured person in the 6100 block of Beaver Dam Road in Salisbury Township.

EMS units arrived and found the patient in the woods some distance from the roadway and requested fire department assistance with removing the patient. The patent had fallen approximately 20' from a tree stand.

Access was found to be easier from the 100 block of Churchtown Road, and units accessed the scene from there. An all-terrian vehicle from a nieghbor was also utilized in the efforts.

Due to the mechanism of the injury, aeromedical was requested to the scene. Squad 49-1 set up the landing zone in a clearing next to the woods.

PennStar 4 from Reading arrived and took over patient care, and with assistance from Station 49, loaded the patient into the helicopter for the flight to the trauma center.
