Tanker 4-9 responds to Pequea Valley High School

At 9:28 PM on Tuesday, October 23rd, Tanker 4-9 was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment to assist the Intercourse Fire Company (Station 4-4) on a reported building fire at the Pequea Valley High School in Leacock Township. A custodian at the school was reporting a light smoke condition in the building in the area of the library, and was searching for the source. The custodian notified a lieutenant from the Kinzer Fire Company, whom in turn notified Lancaster County 911.\

Responding units staged manpower and apparatus in the front parking lot; after an extensive search of the exterior and interior of the building the exact cause of the smoke could not be determined. \

Command released all units with the exception of units from Gap and Intercourse at 10:27PM, with th remainder of the units being released at 10:56 PM. \

Earlier in the day, at 11:28 AM, Ambulance 4-9 and Ephrata Hospital Medic 9 were dispatched to a farm in the 200 block of Cambridge Road for an injured child from a farm accident. Injuries required immediate transport to a pediatric trauma center by aeromedical helicopter SkyCare1. Engine 4-9-1 was then dispatched to the scene to set up a landing zone. The child was loaded into the helicopter and then transported to the trauma center, with Ambulance 4-9, Engine 4-9-1, and Medic 9 all going available a short time later. (no photographs available)\
