At 6:33 AM, the company, along with units from Blue Ball (3-2), Intercourse (4-4), and Liberty of New Holland (3-9) were dispatched to the 5300 block of Paes Road in Salisbury Township for a building fire. Upon his response, Deputy 4-9 (J. Beyer), was advised by Lancaster County 911 of a working car fire with direct exposure to the detached garage. Deputy Beyer arrived with an engine compartment well off, with exposures to the detached garage and the dwelling, of which the siding was starting to melt and smoke. Chief 4-9 (R. Gossert) arrived and utilized fire extinguishers and a neighbors garden hose to keep the fire from spreading to the garage and house until the fire apparatus arrived. Engine 4-9-1 arrived at 6:41 and quickly put a knock on the fire, preventing the garage and house from catching fire. The fire was placed under control and all incoming units, with the exception of Station 4-9 were cancelled at 6:47. The on-call Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall investigated the fire, which points to an electrical malfunction in the engine compartment. Station 4-9 was placed available at 7:08.
