Busy Thursday for the White Horse Volunteers

October 1 proved to be an unusually busy day for Station 4-9…\

12:08 AM- Ambulance 4-9 was dispatched to a medical emergency on Old Philadelphia Pike.\

5:13 AM- Station 4-9 Fire was dispatched to the 900 block of Churchtown Road in Salisbury Township to assist Honey Brook Station 33 on a dwelling fire. Lancaster County 911 was reporting smoke in the basement, with the residents evacuating. First arriving officer Safety 4-9 (C. Eno) reported a single story dwelling with nothing apparent from the outside. Deputy 33 (B. Messner) arrived and established Command. The smoke was traced to a malfunctioning furnace. All units cleared the scene at 5:32.\

8:07 AM- Station 4-9 Fire & EMS was dispatched to the 500 block of Springville Road in Salisbury Township for an automatic fire alarm activation. Lancaster County 911 advised of a smoke detector activation. Management on scene stated it was a false alarm. The assignment was cleared out at 8:27.\

8:15 AM- Station 4-9 Fire & EMS, along with New Holland EMS and Ephrata Hospital ALS were dispatched to the 200 block of Meetinghouse Road in Salisbury Township for a vehicle accident with multiple injuries. Units cleared the scene at 9:19.\

12:47 PM- Engine 4-9-1 was dispatched to assist Gap Station 4-2 in the 300 block of Hershey Church Road for a vehicle fire. Lancaster County 911 was reporting a skid loader on fire twenty feet away from a chicken house. Tanker 4-9 responded as well. Deputy 4-2 (Wenger) arrived on the scene with a working skid loader fire, and assumed Command 4-2. Engine 4-9-1 was first arriving apparatus and deployed a handline to knock down and extinguish the flames. Units cleared the scene at 1:18.\

Later in the evening, both of Station 4-9’s Tug-O-War teams, headed over to New Holland to participate in the annual Firemen’s Tug-O-War at the New Holland Farm Show (see separate story). Several other members and thier families also made the trip to cheer the teams on.
