Recently the Company purchased a Miele Touchtronic W4840 washing machine from Martin Appliance in Brownstown. The purpose of this machine is for the members to be able to wash and help maintain their turnout gear.\
\
Previously, when gear needed to be washed, it was done by hand or taken to a laundromat or home by the member to be washed. Hand washing does not do a proper job of cleaning the gear, and taking the gear to a laundromat incurs additional costs on our volunteer staff. Members taking the gear home ran the risk of damaging their home washer, or contaminating the washer with hazardous carcinogens from the fire scene in the machine for the next load, thus contaminating everyone’s clothing.\
\
With this new machine, all gear will be washed in the station making less work and minimizing the risk of contamination for our volunteers and their families.\
\
We would like to thank Martin’s Appliance for the great service, and Lee’s Plumbing for assisting with the installation of the plumbing for the washing machine.
