Two confined on Old Philadelphia Pike

At 6:41PM on Tuesday, August 9, Station 4-9 Fire & EMS, along with Medic 6 and Rescue 4-2, were dispatched to the intersection of Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) and Cains Road in the Cains section of Salisbury Township for a vehicle accident with entrapment.\

Lancaster County Communications advised of two subjects trapped in one vehicle with two other subjects injured in the second vehicle.\

Safety 4-9 (M. Lantz) arrived on the scene confirming two subjects confined in the sedan. The incident was upgraded bringing two ambulances from Honey Brook, one ambulance from Pomeroy, one medic from Ephrata Hospital, as well as aeromedical placed on standby.\

Engine 4-9-1 arrived and controlled scene hazards and pulled a protective handline. Rescue 4-2 arrived and extricated the two patients from the vehicle within 26 minutes of dispatch. \

The two patients from the sedan were transported to a local hospital by Ambulance 4-9 and Ambulance 33-2. Ambulance 33-1 obtained refusals from the two occupants of the minivan, and cleared the scene. Ambulance 29-2 was not needed and cleared the scene. Medic 6 cancelled on scene. Medic 9 and Pennstar 2 were recalled.\

The incident is under investigation by the PA State Police. Blanks Towing removed the sedan from the scene. The minivan was able to be driven away. The final units cleared the scene at 7:59PM.
