Full Company assist to Wagontown on fatal house fire

At 2:24 PM on September 10, Engine 4-9-1, Engine 4-9-2, and Tanker 4-9 were dispatched to assist the Wagontown Fire Company (Station 35) on a working house fire with confirmed entrapment on Old Wilmington Road, just north of Beacon Light Road in West Caln Township, Chester County.\

All 3 units responded within minutes. \
\
Assistant Chief 35 (Ziegler) responded and was advised by Chester County 911 of several calls reporting fire from a second story window.\
\
Captain 28 (Hume) was the first arriving officers on scene and advised Assistant Chief Ziegler of a working fire with heavy fire through the roof, also relaying that neighbors stated that an elderly female was unaccounted for.\
\
Engine 4-9-1 was the first arriving fire apparatus at 2:36 PM and two teams deployed two handlines and proceeded with an aggressive fire attack. Engine 4-9-2 and Tanker 4-9 arrived shortly there after, and supplied water and manpower to the scene.\
\
Ambulance 4-9 was later dispatched at 3:18 PM to respond to the scene as the 3rd due ambulance, and to assist in case any person needed transport to the hospital.\
\
Unfortunately, the elderly person inside succumbed to her injuries. Our sympathies are with the victim’s family. \
\
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West Caln Township Fire Marshall, Chester County Fire Marshall’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall, and the Chester County Coroner’s Office.\
