At 8:10 AM on Thursday, August 16, Ambulance 4-9, Engine 4-9-1, and Medic 9 from Ephrata Community Hospital were dispatched to the 5700 block of Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) for a Vehicle Accident. The accident involved a pickup truck and a construction dump truck, with the pickup ending up in a farmers meadow. \

Almost immediately after the crash, a firefighter from Station 4-9 who lives in the neighborhood heard the crash, and arrived on the scene, reporting 1 person ejected from the vehicle. With that report, aeromedical helicopter SkyCare1 from Brandywine Hospital was then dispatched to the scene. \

Engine 4-9-1 and Ambulance 4-9 both arrived on the scene and initiated patient care and controlled scene hazards. A second ambulance was requested to the scene, and Christiana Community Ambulance 5-2-1 was dispatched to the scene. Medic 9 and SkyCare1 both arrived and started advanced care on the driver of the pickup truck. Ambulance 5-2-1 arrived and transported the driver of the construction truck to the hospital, and SkyCare1 transported the pickup driver to the trauma center.\

Ambulance 4-9 and Medic 9 both cleared the scene and returned to their respective stations, while Engine 4-9-1 cleared the debris field from the roadway and the farmers meadow, returning to station at 9:25 AM. \

Station 4-9 Fire Police remained on the scene, to control traffic until the tow trucks arrived to clear the damaged vehicles from the scene.\
