At 1:19PM on Wednesday, January 7, Station 4-9, along with mutual aid, were dispatched to the 5900 block of Meadville Road in Salisbury Township for a barn fire. The caller was reporting the barn to be on fire and that they were getting the livestock out of the building.\

A firefighter with Station 3-4 arrived on the scene with a working barn fire. Deputy 4-9 (beyer) arrived on the scene and confirmed the reports, assumed Command 4-9, and quickly requested that the second alarm be struck. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down crews performed extensive overhaul on the structure and its contents. A track hoe from Martins Mulch was called to the scene to assist with these efforts. The fire was placed under control at 2:19 PM, the overhaul efforts and cleanup continued well into the evening hours, with the final units clearing the scene at 7:20 PM.\

Later in the evening, at 10:51 PM, the Station and Engine 33-5 were redispatched to the scene for a fire in the remains of the barn. Units extinguished the hot spots in the barn and cleared the scene at 12:11 AM.\

Later still, at 2:28 AM, the Station and Engine 33-5 were redispatched to the scene for a fire in a pile of debris. Units extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at 4:01 AM.\

The fire was ignited by accidental contact of a skid loader’s exhaust with dry hay. Total estimated damage to the building and contents is $300,000.00\
