Passing of Longtime member Hershey Kurtz

It is with deep regret that the Salisbury Township Fire Company #1 announces the passing of longtime Member and past Fire Police Captain Hershey Kurtz.

Hershey was a member of the company for many years.

Here is Hershey's obituary as it appeared in the Lancaster Newspapers:


"Hershey E. Kurtz

Hershey E. Kurtz, 81, of 5403 Old Philadelphia Pike, Kinzers, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at his home.

Born in Kinzers, he was the son of the late Jason M. and Anna (Hershey) Kurtz. He was married 57 years on June 10 to Marguerite (Hillard) Kurtz.

Hershey was a farmer most of his life and also did custom farming until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement, he worked until 2006 as a truck driver hauling livestock. He was a member of the Pequea Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as an elder and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of the County Line Camp and the White Horse Fire Department where he served as Fire Police.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Barry, married to Gwen (Thomas) Kurtz of Gap, and Kevin, married to Kathleen (Cebular) Kurtz of Kinzers; five grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Mann of Lancaster; and a brother, Willis J., married to Eileen (Seidhof) Kurtz of Lancaster.

Preceding him in death is a brother, Frank Kurtz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Pequea Presbyterian Church, 273 Cambridge Road, Gap with the Reverend Beth Engel officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and on Saturday at the Church from 9-10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pequea Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 273 Cambridge Road, Gap, PA 17527.
