Passing of longtime member Mike Summers

The Officers and Members of the Salisbury Township Fire Company #1 wish to extend our condolences to the family of Allen M. "Mike" Summers. Mike was a longtime member of the Fire Company, serving as Fire Company Recording Secretary for several years in the early 1980's.

The following is Mike's obituary as it appeared in the Lancaster newspapers:

"Allen M. "Mike" Summers, age 86, formerly of Narvon, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Harrison Senior Living of Christiana.

He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Peter & Minnie Pawling Summers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Jean Harsh Summers, who passed away in 1986. In the past, he attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Pequea Presbyterian Church. He was a plumber and electrician, first working for the former Summers Brothers, then working for Clair Umble of Gap, Calvin Smoker of Honey Brook, Baldwin Electric of Narvon and J.B. Zimmerman of East Earl. He attended the former Salisbury High School. He served in the U.S. Army. In the past, he was a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and the Gap Male Chorus. He enjoyed fox hunting.

Surviving are two daughters: Janice wife of Douglas Harding of Narvon, Patricia wife of L. James Welk of Strasburg; two grandsons: Gregory A. Harding of Coatesville and Samuel A. Welk of Strasburg; 5 siblings: Hazel Mast of Honey Brook, Frances Ludwig of Akron, Robert P. husband of Charlotte "Shorty" Denlinger Summers of Narvon, Evelyn wife of Chester Eby of Kinzers, Thelma J. Wanner of Narvon. He was preceded in death by 9 siblings: John, George, Edward, Richard, Lester and Paul Summers, Geraldine Spotts, Kathryn Wetzler, Ethel Maitland.

A memorial service will take place at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 753 Mt. Zion Road, Narvon, PA on Sunday, February 21st, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Keith Price officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 163, Strasburg, PA 17579-0163.
