Passing of Life Member Robert K. McKillips

It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the Officers and Members of the White Horse Fire Company announce the passing of Life Member Robert K. McKillips. Bob went home with the Lord on Tuesday, August 1, 2016.

At the time of his passing, Bob was the oldest living member of our Company at Age 92. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

We extend our condolences to Bob's family in this time of sorrow.

Bob's Obituary:
"Robert K. McKillips, age 92, of Gap, passed away at his home on Monday, August 1, 2016. He was the husband of Lois E. Stahl McKillips with who he celebrate 67 years of marriage on June 11th. He was born in White Horse, PA, son of the late Clyde H. & Marcella Kurtz McKillips.

He was a member of Pequea E. C. Church of Gap, where he was the oldest living member. He worked as a blacksmith at the former Lukens Steel Company, retiring after 42 years. He was the oldest living member of the White Horse Fire Company and Ambulance. He was a lifetime member of the Gap V.F.W. Bob served in the Army, 38th Infantry Division (Cyclone), during WWII and was in the Battle of Zig Zag Pass. He was a staff sergeant with Company E 152nd Infantry. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He loved going to the family cabin in Slate Run, fishing, hunting and rode his motorcycle until the age of 75. In his later years he enjoyed making wood bird houses and feeders.

Surviving besides his wife are 3 children: Vicki L. wife of Edward Sylvester of Coatesville, Robert K. McKillips, II, fiance of Cindy Gehman of Leola, Tami L. wife of Michael Trout of Sinking Springs, PA, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister Betty J. Lepore of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a grandson Shane A. McKillips, 2 siblings: Charles R. "Jim" McKillips and Dorothy Parmer.

Funeral services will take place from the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1520 West Kings Highway, Gap, PA, (Compass) on Thursday, August 4th at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Father John Obenchain will be officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
