By Firefighter/EMT Christopher Eno
October 2, 2014

On the evening of Thursday, October 2, a ceremony was held at the New Holland Farmer's Fair to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Annual Firemen's Tug-O-War. Traditionally, the Tug-O-War is one of the fairs most popular attractions, drawing hundreds of spectators each night of the tournament.

This year, in honor of the 50th Anniversary, a "Parade of Trophies" was held. each years winner was announced, and a member of the company carried that years trophy out onto the arena. Highlighted was this years "50th" trophy...which is 6 feet tall. Deputy Chief John Beyer & Firefighter/EMT Chris Eno, both past Team Captains for White Horse, represented the company in the ceremony; Chris carrying the 1966 trophy, and John carrying the 1968 trophy. A great turnout was received and all 49 years were represented.

Although we participated for many many years, we captured trophies in the following years:
1966 - 1st place;
1968 - 1st place;
2001 - 2nd place;
2002 - 2nd place;
2003 - 3rd place;
2004 - 4th place;

Usually, we would begin to prepare for the contest every year around the beginning of the summer by doing practice pulls at the fire house. The last time we had a team entered in the contest was in 2010.
